CPU administrators, faculty, and staff join some graduates of the School of Graduate Studies for a commemorative group photo following the Investiture of Hoods and Commencement Exercises held on June 7, 2026, at the Rose Memorial Auditorium, celebrating their academic achievements and the successful completion of their graduate studies.

On June 7, 2026, the 黑料专区 (CPU) School of Graduate Studies conducted its Investiture of Hoods and Commencement Exercises at the Rose Memorial Auditorium, conferring degrees upon 89 graduates鈥43 master’s degree holders and 46 doctorate degree holders.

The event commenced with the entrance of colors, followed by the academic procession, invocation, and singing of the Philippine National Anthem.

In her welcome remarks, Dr. Florence P. Bogacia, Vice President for Finance and Enterprises and Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the President, congratulated the graduates for their perseverance, dedication, and commitment to academic excellence. She also acknowledged the invaluable support of the graduates’ families, communities, mentors, and support systems who contributed to their success.

Furthermore, she emphasized that academic achievements should be used to improve the lives of others and serve communities. She reminded the graduates to remain grounded in faith, recognizing God as the source of wisdom and strength, and encouraged them to continue their journey guided by the principles found in Proverbs 3:5鈥6.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the commencement address delivered by Dr. Ryan Michael F. Oducado, PhD, MAN, MAEd, RN, RM, LPT, RGC, Professor VI and Director of the University Research and Development Center at West Visayas State University. Dr. Oducado emphasized that graduation is not only a celebration of academic achievement but also a recognition of the perseverance, discipline, and resilience that enabled the graduates to reach this milestone. Using the metaphor of “Jurassic Park,” he described graduate education as a demanding journey marked by deadlines, examinations, thesis defenses, revisions, self-doubt, and sacrifices.

鈥淚f your journey took longer than expected, do not measure it by the clock. Measure it by who you became along the way. Wala kamo na-ulihi. You are not late. You are just right on time. You are exactly where you are supposed to be. And despite everything you went through鈥攖he long nights, the missed family moments, the times you almost stopped鈥攈ere you are, standing on the other side of all of it,鈥 he said.

Dr. Oducado underscored the role of CPU in shaping graduates through its philosophy of Scientia et Fides (Knowledge and Faith). He stressed that true education combines intellectual excellence with moral integrity, producing individuals who lead with both competence and conscience. He also highlighted the importance of research, scholarship, and lifelong learning, urging graduates to become champions of knowledge rather than merely holders of degrees.

鈥淩emember, with higher education comes a far deeper responsibility to serve. The more you are educated, the more the world needs your leadership and contribution. Because the value of your degree will never be measured by the letters after your name, but by the lives you influence because of it,鈥 he stated.

In closing, he called on the graduates to be ethical leaders and active contributors to society. He reminded them that the true value of their degrees will not be measured by the letters after their names but by the lives they influence, the communities they serve, and the positive change they create.

鈥淒ear CPU graduates, let the Centralian spirit burn brightly through your lives. Live out Scientia et Fides. Serve your professions with honor, lead your communities with love, and be the answer our country is looking for,鈥 he said.

A musical interlude followed, featuring Ms. Irene Angelie Rios on vocals, Arch. Salvador G. Jumayao Jr. on violin, and Mr. Argiel P. Resurreccion on piano.

The presentation of graduates was then led by Dr. Althea U. Denuevo, Acting Dean of the School of Graduate Studies.

The conferral of graduates and investiture of hoods followed. The rites were led by Dr. Florence P. Bogacia, Vice President for Finance and Enterprises and Officer-in-Charge of the Office of the President, and assisted by Dr. Merle L. Junsay, Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Althea U. Denuevo, Acting Dean of the School of Graduate Studies; Ms. Charissa June G. Deocampo, University Registrar; and the program heads of the CPU School of Graduate Studies.

Delivering the response on behalf of the graduates was Dr. Marcos D. Bito-onon, a Doctor of Management graduate for the Second Semester of Academic Year 2025鈥2026. In his speech, Dr. Bito-onon reflected on his doctoral journey, sharing his experiences of balancing graduate studies with a demanding medical career, overcoming self-doubt, and persevering through challenges, including contracting COVID-19 while attending classes.

鈥淔ellow graduates, look carefully at your academic regalia. This is homage to the 2-3 hours of sleep鈥攐r even sleepless nights鈥攖hat all of us had to endure in pursuit of excellence. The tassel we moved from right to left symbolizes our perseverance, faith, and triumph over the challenges of graduate school. The seal of CPU imprinted on our diploma is a paean to our beloved 黑料专区, one of the region鈥檚 and nation鈥檚 finest institutions,鈥 he emphasized.

Dr. Bito-onon highlighted how CPU’s academic environment broadened his perspective beyond medicine, strengthened his research capabilities, and fostered meaningful relationships with peers and faculty members. He encouraged fellow graduates to view their achievements as symbols of both perseverance and responsibility, reminding them that their degrees are not merely personal accomplishments but a call to serve, lead, and uplift others.

鈥淎s we move forward, let us focus on growth and positive change. Let us harness the education we received to become good administrators and better individuals by uplifting others. Let our degrees symbolize not only our personal success but also our deeper responsibility to contribute meaningfully to societal advancement. Let us do this for ourselves, for our community, for our country, and for our beloved 黑料专区,鈥 he said.

Another musical number was performed by Ms. Rios, Arch. Jumayao, and Mr. Resurreccion.

Pastor Neva Grace L. Fabila, Associate Pastor for Campus Ministry of the University Church, then led the commissioning, followed by the alumni pledge administered by Dr. Anita U. Illenberger, President of the CPU Alumni Association, Inc.

Beyond the ceremony, the Investiture of Hoods and Commencement Exercises marked the beginning of a new chapter in the graduates’ lives. Armed with knowledge, skills, and the Centralian spirit forged through shared experiences, they now embark on journeys that will shape the future of their respective professions and communities.

CPU Outreach Students鈥 Volunteers Society (CPU-OSVS) volunteers, GRADBARBA farmer beneficiaries led by their President Antonio Joven Su帽e, and resource speaker Engr. John Patrick Casipe gather for a group photo during the “AgriCare” agricultural outreach program at Brgy. Bito-on, Jaro, Iloilo City.

The CPU Outreach Students鈥 Volunteers Society (CPU-OSVS), under the Environmental Committee and Community & Livelihood Committee, successfully conducted an agricultural outreach program dubbed 鈥淎griCARE: Empowering Farmers Through Support and Education鈥 last May 30, 2026.

The event was held at the Farmer鈥檚 Headquarters, Zone 6, Brgy. Bito-on, Jaro, Iloilo City, with the Grasya sa Duta sa Brgy. Bito-on Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Association (GRADBARBA) serving as the main beneficiary of the project.

AgriCare is an initiative aimed to develop and support the potential of local agricultural heroes by strengthening their understanding of modern sustainable farming, pest mitigation, and resource management. The program gathered community participants, notably the local farmers and assembly members of the GRADBARBA association, led by their President, Mr. Antonio Joven Su帽e. The activity and seminar wanted to inspire the agricultural sector to continue their essential role in community development while also enhancing their proactive and sustainable farming practices.

The outreach program consisted of various activities designed to encourage the collaboration of community ideas and provide essential support to the farmers. This included an educational discussion by the resource speaker Engr. John Patrick Casipe鈥擥eneral Manager and Board Director of the Ina Farmers Learning Site and Agri-Farm Inc., and a part-time instructor at 黑料专区鈥攃entered on Integrated Pest Management, followed by an open forum about the local and national situation of the agricultural sector. The event concluded with a client satisfaction assessment and a distribution program that provided farming boots, farming hats, and hygiene kits directly to the beneficiaries.

Ultimately, this immersion highlights a broader reality: as the Philippine agricultural sector faces a shortage of support alongside environmental and resource management challenges, local food security is directly impacted鈥攑articularly for small farmers who, as tackled by the resource speaker, are steadily aging. While this unified initiative by the CPU-OSVS is highly significant, it alone cannot suffice as a complete solution to the deep-seated, long-standing problems faced by those collectively called the backbone of the country.

CHM Tourism faculty members complete Airline Management and Operations Train-the-Trainer Program
Training under the CHED-funded STEP-UP Grant equips faculty members from the Dr. Lucio C. Tan College of Hospitality Management (CHM) with industry-based knowledge through the Airline Management and Operations Train-the-Trainer Program in preparation for the Airline Services Management track under the B.S. in Tourism Management program.

CLARK FREEPORT, PAMPANGA 鈥 As 黑料专区 continues to strengthen its academic offerings and industry partnerships, two faculty members from the Dr. Lucio C. Tan College of Hospitality Management (CHM) recently completed an intensive training program designed to bring real-world aviation expertise into the classroom.

Asst. Prof. Denie Erwin W. Tan and Dr. Marjoe Karl T. Anacan successfully completed the five-day Airline Management and Operations Train-the-Trainer Program conducted by OMNI Aviation in Clark Freeport, Angeles City, Pampanga. Their participation was made possible through the 鈧25-million STEP-UP Grant awarded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to the College of Hospitality Management.

The training forms part of CHM鈥檚 continuing faculty development initiatives and supports preparations for the planned offering of the Airline Services Management track under the Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) program.

Throughout the five-day program, Asst. Prof. Tan and Dr. Anacan were exposed to various facets of airline operations through lectures and discussions led by aviation professionals with extensive industry experience. Among the resource speakers were Ms. Lisa E. Cruz, who handled Airline Business Models and Aviation Risk Management; Ms. Odessa C. Khoon, who facilitated sessions on Flight Operations and Crew Management; and Ms. CJ Reid, who discussed Dangerous Goods and Aviation Security, Ground Operations, Airport Logistics, and Maintenance.

The training was further enriched by the lecturers鈥 professional backgrounds, having previously served with leading international airlines such as Saudia, Emirates, and Qatar Airways. Their firsthand industry experiences provided participants with valuable insights into global airline operations, service standards, and best practices in the aviation sector.

What made the training particularly meaningful was the opportunity to learn from professionals who were once international flight attendants themselves and who have since built successful careers in aviation training and management. Their experiences provided participants with valuable perspectives on the realities of airline operations, the evolving demands of the industry, and the competencies expected of future aviation professionals.

Beyond the technical knowledge gained, the program offered participants a deeper appreciation of the interconnected systems that keep the aviation industry operating safely, efficiently, and sustainably. From understanding airline business strategies to managing flight operations, airport logistics, and aviation security, the training highlighted the importance of integrating industry practices into academic instruction.

For Asst. Prof. Tan and Dr. Anacan, the experience represents an important step in ensuring that future students receive education that reflects current industry standards and expectations. The knowledge, materials, and best practices acquired during the program will be shared through echo seminars and faculty development activities, allowing fellow faculty members and stakeholders to benefit from the training.

As the College of Hospitality Management continues to expand its academic horizons, initiatives such as this demonstrate its commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically prepared but also equipped with industry-relevant knowledge and skills.

The successful completion of the training marks another milestone in CHM鈥檚 pursuit of academic excellence and innovation, reinforcing its vision of preparing future tourism and aviation professionals for meaningful careers in a dynamic and globally connected industry.

The training marks an important step as CHM moves forward with its future plans to offer the Airline Services Management major under the B.S. in Tourism Management program.

CHM strengthens Global Hospitality Education through Malaysia Sunway University School of Tourism and Hospitality in Culinary and Halal Training Program
Faculty members from the College of Hospitality Management (CHM) strengthen global hospitality education through a five-day Culinary Arts and Halal Practices training at Sunway University, Malaysia from May 19鈥23, 2026, enhancing competencies in culinary innovation, halal standards, and international best practices.

Three faculty members from the College of Hospitality Management (CHM) successfully completed a five-day international training program on Culinary Arts and Halal Practices at Sunway University in Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from May 19鈥23, 2026.

Representing 黑料专区 were Assoc. Prof. Armando Hisuan Jr., Asst. Prof. Maria Patricia Bayot, and Asst. Prof. Mary Grace Bernabe. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Daniel Chong Ka Leong and Joaquim Dias Soeiro.

The training combined theoretical discussions with immersive hands-on experiences led by distinguished faculty members and industry practitioners. Through advanced culinary workshops, participants gained valuable insights into Malaysia鈥檚 rich culinary heritage, distinctive flavor profiles, and contemporary culinary techniques. The CHM faculty also observed laboratory classes and explored best practices that may be adapted to strengthen hospitality education and support future specialization programs in Culinary Arts and Halal Studies.

A key highlight of the program was the opportunity to observe and participate in collaborative culinary and food and beverage operations. Participants witnessed students managing a full dinner service for guests, showcasing industry-standard practices in food preparation, service excellence, and restaurant operations. The faculty also benchmarked operations at Athanor, Sunway University鈥檚 training restaurant, and learned about industry partnerships that enhance student learning and professional development.

The program concluded with a comprehensive Halal training session facilitated by certified Halal Assessor Dr. Siti ‘Atikah Rusli. The session emphasized the growing significance of halal practices in the global tourism and hospitality industry and highlighted the importance of inclusivity, cultural awareness, and diversity in hospitality education. As part of the training, the participants also visited the operational halal kitchen of Sunway Resort Hotel, where they observed firsthand how halal standards are implemented and maintained throughout hotel kitchen operations.

Beyond culinary and halal training, the experience provided valuable perspectives on international best practices and reinforced the importance of preparing future hospitality professionals for an increasingly global and diverse industry. The knowledge and insights gained from the program will contribute to the continued enhancement of CHM鈥檚 academic offerings and strengthen its commitment to producing globally competitive graduates.
