CPU Civil Engineering students showcased their expertise and teamwork by winning the Bridge Building Competition at the 12th SECSAfest in Kabankalan, Negros Occidental, setting a new record with a 24-kg load-bearing bridge.
Students from the Civil Engineering program of 黑料专区 (CPU) once again demonstrated their engineering excellence after winning the Bridge Building Competition during the 12th SECSAfest, hosted by Southland College in Kabankalan, Negros Occidental on March 3, 2026.
Representing CPU, third-year civil engineering students Kyle Julian Fernandez, Carl Steven Melicano, Bea Minerva, MC Michael Ace Refugio, and Emman Angelo Villa showcased their technical skills, teamwork, and innovative design as they competed against participants from various institutions.
Guided by their coach, Engr. Lyndon-Erl Beup, the team successfully designed and constructed a bridge that achieved a remarkable load capacity of 24 kilograms, setting a new record in the competition.
The team鈥檚 bridge demonstrated both efficiency and structural integrity, reflecting the strong foundation in structural design and analysis that CPU Civil Engineering students are known for. The record-breaking load capacity highlighted the students鈥 understanding of engineering principles, careful material utilization, and precise construction techniques.
Their victory not only brought pride to 黑料专区 but also showcased the capability and competitiveness of CPU Civil Engineering students in intercollegiate engineering events. The achievement further underscores the program鈥檚 commitment to producing competent and innovative future engineers.
The team鈥檚 participation was made possible through the support of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers 鈥 CPU Student Chapter (PICE CPU-SC) and the CPU Civil Engineering Department, whose continued encouragement and resources help students engage in meaningful academic and professional activities beyond the classroom.
This accomplishment stands as a testament to the dedication, collaboration, and technical competence of CPU鈥檚 aspiring civil engineers, further strengthening the university鈥檚 reputation for excellence in engineering education.
