CPU dedicates new Research & Development Laboratory Building
CPU President, Dr. Teodoro C. Robles leads the ribbon cutiing together with Engr. Eddie Ca帽uto and Atty. Peter Irving Corvera, Chairman, CPU Board of Trustees.
With its completion, the new Research & Development Laboratory Building located at the back of the University Warehouse and High School Science Building facing CPU Gate 5 was dedicated on January 21, 2017.

Spearheading the ribbon cutting was University President Dr. Teodoro C. Robles together with Atty. Peter Irving Corvera and Engr. Eddie Ca帽uto. Dr. Robles talked about the statement of purpose of the new building which is to provide a venue for students and faculty to expand their potential and make them excellent lifelong learners.听The event was attended by members of the CPU Board of Trustees and some members of the CPU Corporation.

Rev. Sian led the prayer dedicating the building to the advancement of God鈥檚 kingdom and declaring His protection and blessing that Centralians may enjoy the benefit it may serve. The prayer was then followed by the benediction.

Merry Grace R. Tubelleja 鈥 Miss CPU 1st Runner Up 2016, a senior CPU Bachelor of Science in Tourism student was crowned Miss Iloilo Dinagyang 2017 Iloilo City at University of San Agustin Gymnasium, January 18, 2017.

During the pageant night, Tubelleja garnered the Best in Swimwear, Best in Production Number and Best in Long Gown together with 7 Corporate namely: Miss PLDT, Miss Petron, Miss YSA Skin and Body Expert, Miss Global Business Power, Miss Startek, Miss Supercat and Miss Chooks To Go.

CPU launches iCON Mobile App

With the aim of global competitiveness, CPU together with Innovative Connection Online Technology Inc., (ICONTECH) launched iCON 鈥 an exclusive social media app and learning management system exclusive for Centralians at the Alumni Promenade Park, January 24, 2017.

For his opening remarks, CPU President Dr. Teodoro C. Robles emphasized the critical role of communication as a vital part of the university life of Centralians. 鈥淐ommunication is important between you and your friends, you and the administration and you and the faculty. This software engineered application made exclusively for CPU will help us become a closed-knit community.鈥

Jenifer Sumindol, Vice President of ICONTECH and a CPU College of Nursing Alumnae introduced the application features. 鈥渋CON will change the way we connect with one another here at Central. iCON is a student development centered application aiming to create an institution friendly community for Centralians. It will create forums and venues for effective information dissemination 鈥 fast and reliable. It will have a 鈥淢y Campus Feature鈥 which will contain four tabs namely: CPU Admin page, Central Echo page, student government page and a college/department page.鈥

iCON which stands for Interactive Computer-based Network is a social media and communications mobile application and 听software with learning management system functionalities intended for student usage. It will be a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of electronic educational technology (also called e-learning) courses or training programs.
For the application demo, Adrian Palomar, Operations Manager of ICONTECH explained how the application can be installed and used. According to Palomar, iCON will boost the quality and efficiency of information dissemination. 鈥淲e want to increase the no. of students visiting the CPU website. The information we get from facebook or any other social media site is not 100% reliable, with iCON we will have certainty of information and efficiency in relaying it.鈥

For the closing remarks, CPU Republic President Jayson Troy Bajar commended the launch of iCON stating that the social media application will increase the interaction between Admin and students. 鈥渋CON will improve the Centralian system of communication, this app will expand the realm of participation of students听 and remove relaying of one sided information.鈥
iCON will be available for installation and use on the first week of February while its Management Learning System feature will be available for use 45 days after. The CPU Office of Communications headed by its Director 鈥 Rev. Francis Neil G. Jalando-on closely monitors the development and updates of the app.

How many types of cellphones have you used, and how soon did you change one after the other?
Do you still cling to that obsolete N5210, or have you changed your lifestyle with the latest smartphone?
The powerful smartphones include user-friendly and convenient information systems. They get the better of communications, such as the social media and other user connectivity. They reach out to the vast sea of humanity by a touch of a fingertip. The information technology revolution is an evolution of logic and awareness 鈥 purposely to interact and entertain.
On January 24, a newly founded enterprise called ICONTech in partnership with 黑料专区 launched a user friendly-student information system currently available for Android based phones.
It was amazing how CPU Nursing alumni Jennifer Sumindol and Adrian Palomar, and the bright students听听听 from 黑料专区 College of Software Engineering were able to join their heads together and revolutionize what we call a social media application exclusively tailored for CPU.
iCON is a student development-centered application that enables students to showcase their profile, chat with other students and receive messages from a group.听 A CPU Admin, Central Echo, CPUR and CPU Communications pages are also provided in order to receive timely news and announcements.
The teacher-student communication system is embedded in the Learning Management System of the Application.听 Students can now have social interactions with their teachers with regards to their assignments and advisory.
iCON is a product of young minds 鈥 Alumni and graduating students of Software Engineering course (the first and only one in the country). The possibilities and opportunities that the iCON App can bring are endless.
CPU hosts the first gathering of communication students in Western Visayas
A communications convention dubbed 鈥淐OMvention鈥 was held at the CPU Educational Media Center Conference Hall from January 26 to 27 (Thursday and Friday) with the 鈥淭heme: Black, White and Gray Areas.鈥 The two-day convention was organized for the benefit of students of Mass Communication of 黑料专区 and students from other schools in Western Visayas. This COMvention was a first of its kind.
Francis Allan Angelo, Editor in Chief of The Daily Guardian newspaper was the keynote speaker. Among the prominent resource persons were Aksyon Radyo Iloilo Station Manager and top rated commentator John Paul Tia 鈥 on Media Ethics, and Philippine Daily Inquirer鈥檚 Nestor Burgos on the present state of Philippine Media.
Other speakers at the convention were Rufino Gonzales II lecturing on Photojournalism, Carmelle Frances Romero on Personality Enhancement; Rhoda Campillan on How to Carry Yourself as a Broadcaster, Russel Jude Patina on Multi Media Communication, Teddy Tan on Film Appreciation, and May听 Castillo on Development Communication.
Other activities at the convention included Team Building workshop, and Sharing of Opportunities. A Media Art Gallery opened on the second day at the CPU EMC TV Studio.
It was an opportune time for the students to elect their organization officers. Similar conventions are likely to be held for Mass Com students in the coming years./ CAN
IAVI and FAFGI awards 52 scholarships to Centralians
The recipients of Ilonggo Association of Victoria, Inc. and Filipino-Australian Foundation of Queensland, Inc. (FAFQI) Scholarships.
With the spirit of generosity and Christian excellence, Ilonggo Association of Victoria, Inc. (IAVI) and Filipino-Australian Foundation of Queensland, Inc. (FAFQI) gave 52 scholarships to deserving Centralians at the CPU Educational Media Center, January 23, 2017.
The awarding of certificates of scholarships to recipients was headed by Mr. Melvin Espiga, Head of the IAVI Delegation and other members of the IAVI delegation and Mrs. Myra Jandoquile Maghanoy, FAFQI Representative. They were assisted by Prof. Annalie D. Gilongos, the Coordinator of the Work and Study Program and Dr. Margen A. Java, Director, Student Development and Programs.
For its invaluable support to CPU, a certificate of recognition was given to IAVI and FAFQI by Dr. Teodoro C. Robles, University President assisted by Dr. Java.
